Newsflash…

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

I’ve been meaning to post about this for sometime since seeing my website in Internet Explorer.  The  best way to view my website is in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, for reasons you just don’t want to know (it’s really geeky!) Internet Explorer makes it look ugly!

If you don’t know what I’m talking about this this message is really for you! You’re probably viewing the entire web in an outdated browser (what you use to view the internet).  You should really download Firefox , you’ll be glad you did and your viewing experience will be better!

Kids Spring Photo Day

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

SO excited about offering this! This is great for those of you who never buy school photos because they don’t represent your child well.  This is for all of you who appreciate STYLISH, TIMELESS, and UNIQUE photographs of your kids! If you never buy those school photos you’re probably missing out on having photos of your kids! I haven’t confirmed on location yet, but it will be somewhere in Wake Forest (not Joyner Park this time!).  Start your reservations now! You can see availability at the bottom of this post.  The previous client reward system still works for these sessions.  So if you refer someone, who has never booked, and they book, then you get 5% off added to your “account” for your next 1 or 2 hour session!

And the winner is…

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Ok so you know when you hear back from an interview or competition and they say that there were all these well qualified candidates and that it was really hard to choose? And you don’t believe them for a second. Well let me tell you honestly that this was REALLY hard to choose the winner for the true love give away contest.  That’s why it took me so long to decide.  Even then, I couldn’t decide and had to have some consultation (which was a non-biased source and I didn’t disclose the names, just the stories!)

Thank you SO very much for entering, I really appreciate it! I loved reading all the entries and laughed so much! If I was a big crier I would have cried.

So the winner is: Jill and Heath Forbes! Congrats! You won a shoot together!

Why they were inspirational: Jill told me about how she is living out the biggest sappiest love story.  While life right now is not how she pictured it, she is treasuring the moments of her boys screaming in the background, living in an apartment, having 2 boys, and sharing a car.  Despite all the challenges that life has brought their way, Jill wrote that she wouldn’t want to be spending it with anyone else! So cute! I also love the photo that they sent!

Since I had a hard time making a decision I chose a 2nd place winner: Shaana and Chuck Hollingsworth. Congrats! You won a discounted session!

Why they were inspirational: I loved that in elementary school, Chuck would write Shaana notes saying “Do you like me? Check yes or no”, “Will you kiss me? Check yes or no”!  Since they were married at 19 and have had 2 kids since then, they don’t have a lot of photos together!

Thank you again all who entered! I really really appreciated it and you guys are so cute!

How to be more photogenic

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I recently came across an awesome wiki about how to be more photogenic.  I wanted to highlight some of the awesome points they have there and add my own tips!

1. Wear clothes with colors that suit you.  Bright bold colors look really nice.  Think about the background that will be more prominent in your photos. For instance, if you are being photographed in front of a brick wall you probably don’t want to wear green.  I love accessories, you should too. Don’t wear sneakers…please don’t!!  Flats, heels, boots, loafers are nice.  Collard shirts look really nice on men.

2. Determine your best angle…and let me know! Some people let me know jokingly, so you can joke and then tell me you’re serious.

3. Get rid of a double chin. Let’s face it, everyone can have one.  Next time you’re in front of the mirror do this. Take your chin out pull it away from your body (you’ll feel awkward) and then slightly lower it.  That looks very flattering.  Try also doing that while shoulders point in different angles.  Full on body shots don’t look so flattering!

4.  RELAX! Don’t get nervous! Take a deep breath and relax your shoulders.  This will help you feel better.

5.  Smile genuinely! Don’t smile the entire session! This will wear your smile muscles out! Have an overall happy look on your face and then anticipate when the photo is going to be taken and then bring out that smile.  If you think about happy things the entire session, verses being nervous, then you’ll look pleasant in general! You know when you think about something funny and you can’t keep it in?! You can totally do that during a session and I won’t think you’re a dork.

6.  Smile with your eyes.  When you’re doing that neck/chin thing in the mirror also practice smiling with your eyes.  Open them just slightly more than normal and notice the difference when you can see JOY in your eyes!

7.  Forget that you’re being photographed! Just play along!
